A Walk On The Beach

Procrastination Strikes Again

As I start this blog post I am utterly at a loss as to what to write about. I was going to start writing about two hours ago when the procrastination bug (see last week’s post) bit me.  Remembering that my favourite Aussie Rules Football team was playing, I retired to the lounge to have a spot of lunch and settle down in front of the telly to watch a bit of the game. My intention was to just watch until half time and then return to the computer. Well, you guessed it, I ended up watching the entire match. They won, by the way.

Impromptu Travel

These past few days have been trying and uneventful as far as progressing with my business is concerned. On the Tuesday my wife and I heard from the rehab hospital in Melbourne that they could accommodate her on the following Tuesday. You may remember that her mother (my mother-in-law) is in a nursing home also in Melbourne. So, to kill two birds with one stone, we wanted to fly down on the Friday so we could visit her mum a few times before she was admitted into rehab on the Tuesday. As we live in Far North Queensland, that meant I had three days to organise: –

  • Accommodation for our dog
  • Reservation at the airport car park
  • One way flights to Melbourne for my wife and I
  • Accommodation for four nights
  • A one way flight to Cairns for me
  • Packing
  • Etc

Must Get to The Flight

Unfortunately, my wife had a fall at home in the early hours of Friday and as a result could barely walk. She had landed awkwardly on her right leg and had badly strained the ligaments around the knee. Somehow, we managed to finish the packing and get to the airport. Once there, I was fortunate to find a wheelchair to enable her to get to the check-in counter. There followed an anxious few minutes while the airline staff decided whether or not they could let her on board with such an injury. They agreed, thank goodness, and off we went. They were good enough to organise a wheelchair to meet us at the other end and we were able to use it right up to the Uber that took us to the motel.

Camping In A Motel

And there we stayed for the next four days and nights. As each day dawned, my wife found her mobility was virtually non-existent and didn’t want to unduly worry her mum by turning up in a wheelchair. She had probably forgotten that we were coming to see her as the Alzheimer’s plays nasty tricks on her short-term memory. So, she decided it would be better to postpone the visit for a few weeks to give her leg a chance to heal.

Back Home Alone

I’m back home again and missing my wife terribly. We are in contact via Messenger every night and she’s cold (it’s the middle of winter and Melbourne is freezing right now) but doing well.

Watch Out – More FB Scams About

Oh yes, I’ve just remembered something I wanted to share regarding a Facebook promotion ad that I posted recently. The campaign only went for three days. I was just testing the water again, so to speak, with a paid video that I had posted a while ago, that at the time, seemed to attract mostly people from South Africa even though SA was last on the list of countries. I mentioned this in a previous blog. This time, I chose Australia, USA, Canada and UK in that order.

I Object, This Is No Scam

Apart from the three comments I had accusing my video of being a scam (one even left a Facebook review to that effect), I also received several disturbing comments. These were apparently from FB admin, saying that my video had breached their guidelines and my account would be terminated in three days unless I appealed. At first, I was horrified but then noticed a spelling mistake in the url that I was supposed to go to in order to lodge my appeal. Also, the FB account of the publisher of said comment was a gentleman from Nigeria, according to his profile.

But This Is!

A hasty Google search for the wording in the comment revealed that it was yet another scam hoax. In fact, over the course of the campaign, I received several more of these from different people all with similar wording. I am very pleased to say that after three days nothing happened and I resisted the temptation to follow any of the presented links to appeal.

Back To Business

On the business side, I’ve only just caught up with last week’s blog-hopping and once I’ve finished this post, I’ll be back into the training and making some more videos for TikTok. I also want to start learning more about Facebook lead ads and preparing for my first one.

One of my mentors has given some valuable advice to one of my fellow marketers on how to improve their website. I would like to try and improve my website to the same effect. It may not happen this week, but I’ll see how it goes.

Have A Great Week

I’d be delighted if you’d like to leave a comment or let me know if you have any questions or just leave me a “hello”. I hope you enjoyed reading this and even though there’s not much content, I hope it has been helpful. As always, it’s been a pleasure to see you in here.

If you’d like to subscribe to my free newsletter, there’s a link in the side bar (or beneath this if you’re viewing on a mobile) or you can find a link here. (There’s a couple of gifts in it for you!)

Until next time.

Take care.

  1. Hi Andy – There is clearly a lot to see in your post! I love the title of your post. 🙂 I’m so glad you were able to find something to write about because it is very valuable. You accomplished a lot this week in the midst of distractions getting in your way. I am sorry to hear about your wife I hope she recovers quickly. I, too, had some interesting comments on my business page in Facebook. The made it seem like I was doing something wrong and my page was going to get shut down. Obviously, I was worried, but nothing has happened yet joe it looks like a scam – Just like what you experienced. Best wishes my friend on a great week filled with less distractions and a lot of productivity!

  2. Thanks so much for the heads up! These scams are so easy to act on and then, they ask for your life savings. Or steal your identity.

I am sorry about your wife! I hope she’s on the mend!!

  3. Andy I hope things return to some kind of normality soon and that your wife recovers quickly. I live in Melbourne and back in May and early June the weather in Melbourne was much warmer than when you came down for your last visit. Just a few days ago the top temperature for the day was only 7 degrees. I am guilty of procrastination and sometimes it is a curse and we need to improve our mindset and become a better version of ourselves. Thanks for the warning about the scam on Facebook. Hope this week goes much better for you and your wife.

  4. It’s refreshing to read such an honest account of the ups and downs of managing both personal life and business commitments. Your advice to stay focused amidst setbacks is invaluable. For dealing with procrastination, creating a structured schedule with prioritized tasks can help maintain momentum. Setting small, achievable goals for your business each day ensures continuous progress, even during challenging times. I like to use the SMART goals method, if you have goals that are measurable and timebound you can really hold yourself accountable! Keep sharing your journey—it’s a great reminder to all of us that perseverance and adaptability are key. Wishing you all the best in your endeavors and speedy recovery for your wife! 🌟

  5. Hi Andy,

I’m so sorry about your wife. I’m glad she is recovering well despite her injury.

Dealing with those Facebook scams must have been frustrating, but it’s great you handled it well.

Wishing you smooth sailing with your blog and TikTok videos! Looking forward to seeing more updates.

  7. Wow, what a rollercoaster of a week you’ve had! From footy distractions (congrats on the win!) to impromptu travels and Facebook shenanigans, it sounds like you’ve been juggling quite a bit. Hope your wife’s knee heals up quickly and you both can visit her mum soon. Also, thanks for the heads up on those FB scams—scammers are getting sneakier by the day! Looking forward to seeing your new TikTok videos and hearing more about your business journey. Hang in there and keep those updates coming!

  8. Andy what a trooper! Life does seem to always get in the way, but it’s how we handle those life events that makes us stronger! At least your team got a win, keep pushing forward and take good care of your wife.

  9. Procrastinating with the lure of a good football match is probably the number one productivity killer. For me, it is not football but some Netflix series…

Exploring the roots and remedies is important and useful.

We all face moments where our intentions get sidelined by distractions,
but awareness and taking responsibility help us to do better next time.

I hope your wife’s leg has healed and she is feeling better.

I did not know FB scams were a thing! Another thing to be aware of!

I look forward to more of your TikTok videos.
