The Importance of Q and A
Hello and welcome to my latest blog. I hope you’re having a great day. I’m writing this using MS Word as suggested by some of my fellow certified partners in the Beginners Advantage course. If you didn’t know already, this is the tutorial that comes with Dean Holland’s marvellous platform Affiliate System. After last weeks disaster when I lost the entire blog because I hadn’t saved my work in WordPress, this is a much safer approach. Once I’ve finished, I just have to copy it into WordPress, add a picture or two and publish. As well as the backup being taken on a regular basis by the plugin I added recently, I will also have it recorded in Word (if I remember to save it that is).
I’ve just been watching one of the Q and A sessions that Dean records every week for us “students”. Even though the detail is there in the weekly tutorials, these Q and A videos are invaluable. Unfortunately, I live on the other side of the planet from where Dean is, so to attend the live sessions, whilst it is not impossible to do, there is the massive risk that I may fall asleep (they start at midnight my time). It’s good to see questions coming in that illustrate the different stages that people are up to in the training. It makes me feel better about the progress I’m making and gives me reassurance that, although I may not be bang up to date with the training, it doesn’t matter. The important lesson here is to move at your own pace, but don’t stop moving and you’ll get it done.
Quite often, I hear questions that I have had at the back of my mind but have been unable to articulate into words and I’m so grateful that someone else has put it so succinctly. Some things I may have considered as not being important but when someone else asks about it, I realise, hey, yes it does matter.
It’s All About The Emails
This week, the training was all about emails and the importance of keeping in touch with the folks who have shown their willingness to receive emails from you.
Affiliate System has in-built functionality that allows you to keep track of the email addresses of the people who have opted in to your email list. There are two types of emails that can be used once you have a willing audience to send them to: –
- Automated follow-up emails that are included in funnel workflows that are either provided in Affiliate System or created by you.
- One-off broadcast or newsletter emails (otherwise known as email campaigns).
The homework or practice, as I like to call it, for this week’s tuition was to: –
- Ensure you have opted in and confirmed yourself as a subscriber to your business email list. I did this by clicking on the lead magnet link I had added to my blog site. I wrote about this in the blog called why is my computer so slow. I used my own private email for this purpose. Incidentally, this uses the double opt-in method.
- Create a new email campaign and send it to yourself. A basic email template is provided. This I used to formulate an email inviting the reader (i.e. me) to come and view my latest blog masterpiece (ha ha!) via a link embedded in the text of the email. Once it was tested successfully, I clicked on a button that gives you the opportunity to select the email addresses that you wish to send to; in this case just one – mine. The final part was to click “send”. I was then able to go to my private email system and view the email I had just sent.
- Reply to your own email. I replied to that email giving myself the highest praise for such a great blog and was able to see it in the Conversation Section in WordPress. At this point “business me” replied to “private me” with another email. I was reminded to change the “send from” name to my own business email address (Andy@m.ajacobs-affiliates.com) as it was not filled in automatically by the system. Again, I was able to see the new email in my private email system.
In the Marketing/Email Campaigns section, Affiliate System also keeps statistics such as who has opened your emails, who has clicked on links in your emails and more. This way you can easily see how your email campaigns are progressing.
I hope this has been informative and once again, I’d be happy to hear your comments.
Next time, I’ll be learning about attracting traffic, both free and paid.
Until next time, stay safe.
Andy, you are absolutely right the Q&A is invaluable. It’s a shame you’re on the other side of the world as I’m lucky because I’m in the UK. However, my challenges trying to slot that in amongst the day of my 9 to 5 job as well. I’m glad the Q&A brings you lots of value. Thank you for laying out the email methodology. It’s one of the biggest changes in the industry and therefore it has to be done right. With Dean guidance and homework it really helps us do things the right way and in the right order. Have a great week. Thanks, Atif
Thanks for kind and encouraging words. Honestly, I don’t know how you do it, holding down a busy job, supporting your family plus building your business AND commenting on all our blogs. When do you sleep? You are truly an inspiration.
Hello – I also use Word and copy and paste. I learned my lesson the hard way, as well! I agree that the Q&As are so valuable. I often find that others have the same questions as I may have or those that are ahead of me ask questions that I did not know I was going to have. Great Stuff!
When I finally got my sales funnel up, email campaigns drafted, and launched my content campaign on Instagram a few weeks ago…I quickly became sucked into obsessing over content creation and how many views my Reels were getting (checking for updates constantly)… and after over a week of that I’ve had to pause myself and remember our recent coaching. Our biggest goal as you mentioned in this post is to cultivate an email list. Because that is ultimately where our business will be made. Not on our blogs. Not in our social media following. So I am personally regrouping to focus my primary efforts on attracting those leads to subscribe…and stop trying to go right to promoting my offers to an “empty room.”
