From Nasty Bowel Infections to Lead Ad Progress

Good Morning Sunshine!

Under the Weather

I forgot to mention in my previous post, there was another reason for my absence from the blogging. A couple of weeks ago I had been a bit under the weather. My diverticulitis flared up again. In case you didn’t know, diverticulitis is an inflammation of the large intestine caused when pockets occur in the lining of the bowel due to excessive straining (ouch!).

Itis or Osis?

Most of the time these pockets don’t do any harm and the general term for this is diverticulosis or diverticular disease. When it becomes inflamed it is called diverticulitis. The underlying cause of this is not enough fibre in the diet. This was a wakeup call for me.

Not Enough Fibre

It manifests itself as a pain in the lower left side of the abdomen. The first time this happened to me, around six or seven years ago, I thought it was a touch of IBS or Irritable Bowel Syndrome and started self-medicating with a product I found in the pharmacy. As that had no effect, I finally saw my doctor who immediately sent me to the nearest emergency room.

Antibiotics

I spent the next few days in hospital and received treatment in the form of strong antibiotics. Had I left it any longer it could have resulted in a perforation of the bowel which in turn could have led to peritonitis and eventual death. So, I had a very lucky escape.

Lots of Fibre

A drastic change of diet followed for a couple of weeks made up of mainly liquids and soft food. Then another change of diet to include lots of fibre. Unfortunately, I didn’t keep it up and I’ve had two attacks since then: this being the second. This time I knew what to do and saw my doctor without any delay this time. A week’s worth of antibiotics did the trick and I’m all better again.

Facebook Lead Ads Training

In the last couple of posts, I mentioned that I had joined the Facebook Ads Lab Training course run by the awesome Sophie Sion Byde. She is one of the mentors/trainers in Internet Profits. It’s designed to run for six weeks, and we’ve just completed the last week. I’m very pleased to say that Sophie will be running a Zoom catch up in two week’s time as an extra bonus.

The intention was that we should have an ad up and running before the six weeks is up and I’m happy to report that I managed to get mine published at the end of week five.

Eighteen Subscribers So Far

So, after ten days I now have eighteen people on my email list, an average of just under two per day. The daily numbers range from none (on a couple of days) to six (on day eight).

Considering that after ten months I have only managed two subscribers (and one of those unsubscribed) through organic means, I am very encouraged at the results so far.

After the first few days, I was concerned that maybe it wasn’t attracting enough subscribers and the wording in the ad might benefit from a tweak or two. However, when Sophie reviewed the numbers in our weekly Zoom call, she said it was quite normal for the ad to attract low numbers in the first few days. She felt it was doing well and advised me to leave it for another week before making any decision.

Week Two Training

Week two was all about lead magnets – whether to create your own or use one that already exists. We were provided with a list of lead magnet suggestions ranging from Ebooks to Webinars. If you preferred to create your own there was plenty of advice on where to get inspiration from. These included resources such as Canva or ChatGPT.

I decided to use one that Dean Holland and Internets Profits had provided in my early training as a Certified Partner. This is an Ebook in the form of a downloadable PDF called Avoiding The Pitfalls. It contains thirty-one pages of great advice when starting out in the world of making money on-line.

It was written by another of the great trainers in the company, namely Glenn Shepherd. I only made one change that being the image used on the first page. No disrespect to Glenn but I just felt it needed freshening up.  I found the bear trap picture on Canva by the way. What do you think?

Next time, I’ll cover week three; all about follow up email sequences.

Have A Great Week

I’d be delighted if you’d like to leave a comment or let me know if you have any questions or just leave me a “hello”. I hope you enjoyed reading this and it has been helpful. As always, it’s been a pleasure to see you in here.

If you’d like to subscribe to my free newsletter, there’s a link in the side bar (or beneath this if you’re viewing on a mobile) or you can find a link here. (There’s a couple of gifts in it for you!)

Until next time.

Take care.

  1. It sounds like you’ve been through quite a lot recently! Dealing with diverticulitis is no joke, but I’m glad you’re feeling better and on top of things now. Changing your diet can be tough, but it’s great that you took action so quickly this time around. Also, congrats on getting your Facebook lead ad up and running—that’s awesome! Eighteen subscribers in ten days is a solid start, especially compared to before. Sophie’s advice to wait before tweaking things seems spot on. Excited to hear how week three of training goes and how your email sequence shapes up! Keep going, you’ve got this!

I’m really impressed with your progress in the Facebook Ads course. Eighteen subscribers in just ten days is a fantastic achievement! It’s inspiring to see that your ad is performing well, especially since it took you ten months to get just two organic subscribers. It shows that taking action can lead to positive results. I agree that using a lead magnet like “Avoiding The Pitfalls” is a smart choice. It sounds like a helpful resource for anyone starting in the online business world.
